May 14, 2008 lecture by Jerry Dien for the Stanford University Computer Systems Colloquium (EE380). The ASUS Eee PC, which stands for “Easy to Learn, Easy to Work and Easy to Play,” has been a tremendous success for ASUS since its initial launch in October of 2007. The 7-inch, 2 pound mobile internet gadget has also set a new trend for the PC industry and defined a whole new category of portable computers. ASUS believes that the future of information technology will be rooted strongly in mobility and the cloud lies at the heart of this. But granting access to vast amounts of data wherever you happen to be runs the risk of information overload, which is why ASUS is working on devices that deliver just the information you need, when you need it. The concept is called Waveface and it sits at the core of three exciting designs that combine already familiar ideas with more nascent technologies.
Face Wave Introduction of a series of devices that concept into our daily needs and re-thinking fits the way we handle information. ASUS believes that the future of information technology will be strongly rooted in the mobility and the cloud is located in the heart of this. But providing access to large amounts of data, where you happen to run the risk of information overload, which is why Asus is working on devices that only the information you need, when you need to deliver. The concept is called “Face Wave” and it is in the heart of the three exciting designs that are already familiar with more ideas to combine emerging technologies. Face Wave Casa Intended for use at home, Casa Face Wave is a large widescreen display that functions as entertainment center and internet portal. Unlike the current big-screen televisions, the Casa is not designed for a room to dominate a large part of the screen is hidden behind a flexible cover when not in use, leaving only small exposed areas of useful information to show . Light Wave Face Acting as an interface to the cloud instead of a high-powered personal computer, the Wave Face Light takes the idea of the laptop to the extreme. Backed with a soft, flexible material, the light uses a flexible, touch-sensitive screen that can be used in both a traditional folding screen and tactile keypad arrangement, or as a flat, single-screen tablet. Face Ultra Wave Unfolding a laptop is not always the best way to access information and ASUS will also need . . . B>
